Team Overview

General
India are participating in their fifth Asian Games women's volleyball tournament at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou. They first appeared as hosts of the 1982 Games in Delhi, where they finished winless and last of the six teams. Following a 28-year absence, they returned at the 2010 Games in Guangzhou and have participated in each edition of the Asian Games since then.

Having failed to progress from the group stage in 2010, the team advanced to the quarterfinals four years later in Incheon courtesy of a play-off victory against Maldives. However, they lost to the People's Republic of China in the last eight and finished the tournament ranked eighth of nine teams. It was a similar story in Indonesia in 2018, with just one victory against Hong Kong, China from their seven matches resulting in another second-last place finish.

India have been regular participants at the Asian championship this century, with 10th place [2015 and 2019] representing their best finish in six appearances between 2005 and 2019. The Indian team competed at the inaugural edition of the world championship in 1952, but are yet to make a second appearance at the tournament.

The team won back-to-back gold medals at the South Asian Games in 2016 and 2019. At the 2019 Games in Nepal they overcame the hosts 3-2 in the final.
