Team Overview

General
Thailand debuted at the Asian Games in 1962 and have made 10 appearances without winning a medal. They came closest to the podium in 2010 in Guangzhou where, after a 3-0 semifinal defeat to the Islamic Republic of Iran, they lost the bronze medal match 3-0 to the Republic of Korea.

At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the Thai team got off to a promising start by topping Pool E following wins over Sri Lanka and Vietnam and a 3-2 loss to the People's Republic of China. They did not advance past the first knockout round, however, after a 3-2 defeat against hosts Indonesia. Thailand ended their tournament on a positive note after classification round victories over Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, finishing seventh overall.

The Thais competed at the Asian championship on 16 occasions between 1987 and 2021 without recording a top-three finish. They ranked 15th at the 2021 edition of the tournament. The team have participated in five editions of the Asian Cup, hosting the tournament on three occasions, with fifth place in 2018 representing their best performance.

Thailand have had more success at the South East Asian Games, where they won gold six times between 2001 and 2017. The Thais lost the third place play-off match against Cambodia at the 2021 Games in Hanoi. Their sole appearance at the world championship came in 1998.
