Team Overview

General
Qatar are looking to secure their third consecutive Asian Games title in men's handball at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou. They won all eight of their matches at the 2014 Games to claim their first Asian Games gold medal, rounding off the tournament with a 24-21 victory over the Republic of Korea in the final, and then won all seven matches at the 2018 Games to retain their title. They faced Bahrain in the gold medal match in Indonesia, where they ran out 32-27 winners after extra-time. The Qataris made their Asian Games debut in 1998 in Bangkok, and also finished on the podium in 2002 [bronze] and 2006 [silver].

The Qatari team are on a fine run at the Asian championship, winning gold at the last five editions of the tournament. At the most recent edition in 2022, they faced Bahrain in the final for the fourth time since 2014.

Qatar have competed at nine editions of the world championship since 2003. As host nation of the 2015 World Championship in Doha, they defied the odds to reach the final but were denied victory by France, who won 25-22. The Qatari team were ranked 22nd at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Qatar made their Olympic debut at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, where they were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage by Germany.
