Team Overview

General
The Syrian Arab Republic made their debut at the Asian Games in 1982, exiting at the group stage after recording two draws and one loss. After a 24-year absence, the team returned to the competition in 2006 in Doha. They advanced from the preliminary round but were unable to progress from the second group stage despite picking up four points.

The Syrian team made their third Asian Games appearance in Indonesia in 2018. Victories over the United Arab Emirates and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste qualified them for the round of 16, where they defeated Palestine 1-0. They were then eliminated by Vietnam at the quarterfinal stage, losing 1-0 after extra-time.

The Syrian Arab Republic reached the last eight at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship in Thailand, losing 1-0 to Australia following extra-time. They also made the quarterfinals at the 2013 edition of the tournament, when it was an U22 competition. The Syrians did not qualify for the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup.

The team made their sole Olympic appearance at the 1980 Games in Moscow, where they finished bottom of their group.
