Team Overview

General
Japan are the reigning Asian Games champions in women's team foil, having beaten the People's Republic of China 35-34 in the final at Indonesia 2018. The Japanese team had won four silver medals and six bronze medals in 10 Games appearances from 1974 to 2014 before securing their first title in Indonesia.

The Japanese team debuted at the Olympic Games in 1976, and have made a total of five appearances. They are yet to win a medal and finished sixth at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Japan won bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Milan, beating the United States of America in the third place match. It was only the second time the team had finished on the podium at the tournament, following on from their bronze at the 2007 edition in St. Petersburg. At continental level, the Japanese team have won gold at the last three editions of the Asian championships. They beat the Republic of Korea in the final in 2019, and defeated the People's Republic of China in 2022 and 2023.
