Team Overview

General
Sri Lanka arrive at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou as the last team to have won gold at the Asian Games, having claimed the title at the 2014 Games in Incheon. They beat the hosts, the Republic of Korea, in the quarterfinals and then defeated Bangladesh on a coin toss after their semifinal was affected by rain. Facing Afghanistan in the final, the Sri Lankans batted first and scored 133 runs before bowling their opponents out for 65 runs to secure gold. Four years earlier in Guangzhou, they missed out on the podium after losing to the Bangladeshi team in the semifinals and then falling to defeat against Pakistan in the bronze medal match.

The Sri Lankan team competed at all eight editions of the Men's T20 World Cup between 2007 and 2022, securing their sole title in 2014 with a six-wicket victory over India in the final. They were also finalists in 2009 and 2012, losing to Pakistan and the West Indies, respectively, and reached the last four in 2010. At the 2022 edition of the tournament, they won Group A to advance to the Super 12 but their campaign ended there after two wins and three defeats.

The team claimed the title at the 2022 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. They only lost one match [to Afghanistan in the group stage] on their way to a 23-run victory over Pakistan in the final.

Sri Lanka won silver at the South Asian Games in both 2010 and 2019. They were represented by an U21 side in 2010 and an U23 side in 2019.
