Team Overview

General
A silver medal in 2006 is Qatar's only Asian Games podium finish. As hosts of Doha 2006, the Qatari side beat Chinese Taipei and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the knockout rounds but could not overcome the People's Republic of China in the final. The team made their Asian Games debut in 1978 and have competed at every edition since 2002.

At the 2018 Games, Qatar began with a 90-80 win over Hong Kong, China, but did not progress beyond the group stage following defeats to Japan [82-71] and Chinese Taipei [83-70]. They finished the tournament ranked ninth overall.

Between 1991 and 2017, the team made 10 appearances at the Asia Cup [formerly known as the Asia championship]. Their third-place finishes at the 2003 and 2005 editions represent their best performances at the tournament.

Qatar's only appearance at the world championship [now known as the World Cup] came at the 2006 tournament in Japan, where they were winless in their five group stage matches.
