"When I was in elementary school, I used to go to traditional wrestling with my father and my uncle, and I used to be very good at it. In Mazandaran Province it is common for children to wrestle when they want to show their strength. I wrestled very well at school. As a child, I became very interested in wrestling. TRADITIONAL ROOTS
He was initially involved in varzesh-e bastani, a traditional form of Iranian wrestling. "I first practised in the zurkhaneh [the structure where varzesh-e bastani is performed], but some time later I fell in love with freestyle wrestling. I can say that my character was formed in the depths of the zurkhaneh. Zurkhanehs have a spiritual atmosphere. It is in the gym that the athlete's soul and body are polished at the same time." CHANGE OF PLANS
His parents originally wanted him to become a lawyer. "I did very well and studied at a model school. When I was invited to the national youth team, I left the model school. I had promised my parents I would become a lawyer, but thankfully I am able to make them proud in another way. I will make up for that promise." (varzesh3, 13 Feb 2021)
