Team Overview

General
Vietnam are making their third Asian Games appearance in Hangzhou. On their debut in Doha in 2006, they lost all three pool matches and a quarterfinal against Japan. Their only win came in the seventh place play-off against Mongolia.

The team's second appearance was at the 2018 Games in Indonesia. On this occasion they performed better in the pool stage, posting wins against India [3-0] and Kazakhstan [3-2] as well as defeats to the People's Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, and the Republic of Korea. They were knocked out by Thailand in the quarterfinals, and then recorded a win against hosts Indonesia and a defeat to Kazakhstan in the classification round to finish sixth overall.

The Vietnamese team did not finish in the top four at the Asian championship in 10 appearances from 1991 to 2017, but did rank fifth in both 2015 and 2017. The team have contested the third place play-off match at the Asian Cup on two occasions, losing to Kazakhstan in 2012 and to Thailand in 2022. They won silver at 10 of the 11 South East Asian Games between 2001 and 2022, finishing as runners-up to Thailand on each occasion. They also claimed bronze in 2017.
