Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China are the only team other than Japan to have won Asian Games gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay. They triumphed in home water at the 2010 Games in Guangzhou, one place ahead of the Japanese team, having previously won silver seven times between 1974 and 2006. They have since also claimed silver at the 2014 and 2018 editions of the Games, giving them 10 Asian Games medals in total, which is second only to Japan's 17.

The Chinese team have won one Olympic medal from four appearances [bronze in 2012], and failed to reach the final on any of their other three appearances. They ranked ninth at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. At the world championships, the People's Republic of China claimed back-to-back bronze medals in 2011 and 2013, and did not qualify for the final at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

At the Asian championships, the People's Republic of China won a trio of gold medals between 2006 and 2012, and silver at the 2016 edition of the tournament.
