Her mother I Gusti Ayu Indra Dewi won a bronze medal in the 50m rifle at the 2011 National Sports Week [PON] in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. (pikiran-rakyat, 07 Dec 2019)

She began shooting at age nine in Jakarta, Indonesia. "This was my mother's plan for me to become an elite athlete. In the beginning, she took me to swimming lessons, I was told to run all the time, and I had to do all other exercises. It was all about physical training, and not simply aiming and shooting." She was inspired to take up the sport by her mother. "When I was a child, my mother used to take me to Senayan Shooting Range in Jakarta. It was fun to see her competing. She kind of shaped and invited me to become a sport shooter like her. From the beginning, I was exposed to rifles, not guns. The 10m [rifle] event is the mother of [rifle] shooting. I mean, before we were allowed to train in the 50m or more, we have to master the 10m first. It was challenging, and I liked it."
