Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China claimed their third consecutive Asian Games medal in 2018 in Indonesia, losing the final 7-5 to Japan. They had won gold in 2014, defeating Japan 14-12, and were silver medallists at the inaugural Asian Games women's sevens tournament at Guangzhou 2010 after losing 17-14 to Kazakhstan.

The Chinese team won the 2022 Asian Series after beating Japan in the final at two of the three legs of the competition. They had last claimed victory at the Asian Series in 2014.

The People's Republic of China have taken part in all four editions of the World Cup since 2009. At the 2022 edition of the tournament, they lost their first round match to Canada but ended their tournament on a high with victories over Madagascar and hosts South Africa to rank 13th overall. The team participated in one leg of the 2022/23 World Series, which saw them win the 11th place play-off against Brazil in Dubai.

After winning the 2019 Asian Olympic qualifier, the People's Republic of China made their Olympic debut at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. In the group stage they lost to the United States of America and Australia but beat Japan 29-0 to secure a quarterfinal berth against France. They were knocked out by the French team, and suffered another loss to the US team in their first classification match, but managed to end the tournament in seventh place with victory over the ROC.
