She was scouted by rowing coaches from Ha Tinh province in Vietnam. "I had a passion for volleyball as a child. I was selected to play for Cam Trung Secondary School because of my height. Two coaches said that my height and long arms were very suitable for rowing. At that time, I was very surprised because I had never heard about the sport. They talked to my parents.
