His younger brother Ryuji has competed in karate at Premier League level. Both brothers were part of the Japanese team that won gold in men's team kata at the 2021 World Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (SportsDeskOnline, 12 Jan 2023; karatedo, 20 May 2019; teikyo-sports, 11 Jul 2018)
:
He began the sport in grade one of primary school. (hikeonstarway, 05 Jan 2019)
:
When his sister was invited to a karate centre by a friend, he went with her. "It looked really fun to me, so I gave it a try. Later, I discovered that my father had also competed in the sport while in high school and university. My father didn't say that he wanted me to take up karate, I got involved in the sport by chance. I feel like it's my fate." He decided to focus on kata over kumite as he felt kata was better suited to his slight build, and he had received praise when learning kata. (hikeonstarway, 05 Jan 2019)
:
"Although I'm of small build, people say that I appear bigger when I'm doing kata. I think one of my strongest points is my dynamic techniques. Karate is my life. I want to keep competing as long as I can move my body and perform the techniques well." (hikeonstarway, 05 Jan 2019)
:
In 2022 he received an award from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan in recognition of winning gold in team kata at the 2021 World Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (agpgroup, 21 Oct 2022)
