Team Overview
General
India won gold at all seven editions of the Asian Games between 1990 and 2014 without losing a match. After a knockout stage was introduced to the competition in 2006, they won the final against Pakistan at the 2006 Games and against the Islamic Republic of Iran in both 2010 and 2014. In 2018 in Indonesia however, they suffered their first loss at the Asian Games with defeat to the Republic of Korea in Group A of the preliminary round. Although they still progressed to the semifinals, they were beaten 27-18 by the Iranian team in the last four and had to settle for a share of the bronze medal with Pakistan.
The team have also won gold at 10 of the 11 editions of the South Asian Games to feature kabaddi. The only blemish on their record has come at the 1993 Games in Dhaka, where they finished runners-up to Pakistan.
India were victorious at the World Cup [international format] in 2004, 2007, 2016, and 2019. They defeated the Islamic Republic of Iran in the first three finals before overcoming Iraq at the 2019 edition.
