"I didn't like this sport at all and I didn't want to do it. But my grandfather was very interested in judo, and this played a decisive role. I remember a funny story. When they took me to the Samarkand School of Olympic Reserve, on the way they said that I would play football. But then they dressed me in a kimono and I was very surprised. I thought, 'How am I going to play football in this?' At first, during the first two years [in judo], it was very hard. I constantly lost in the first round. But then I won a bout and my interest woke up, my appetite broke out. I fell in love with the sport and since then I have been confidently working towards new victories." (themag, 01 Dec 2022)
