LONDON EXPERIENCE
She was defeated in 81 seconds by Japanese judoka Yoshie Ueno in the first round of the -63kg category at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and then required knee surgery after the Games. She has described this period as among the most challenging of her career. "At London, it had become really difficult for me to focus. I kept thinking that she's a world number one from Japan. I lacked maturity. The pressure was like nothing I had ever experienced before. It was a really tough phase [after the operation]. I was trying to come back as a stronger athlete, but all around me the murmurs were getting impossible to tune out. People kept saying that I was finished and I would never compete for India again. Since that time I have worked on things like explosive strength and speed besides honing the mental aspect." (firstpost, 30 Jul 2018)
