Team Overview

General
The Republic of Korea's five gold medals is the most of any team at the Asian Games. After claiming silver at the inaugural women's hockey tournament in 1982, the Koreans went on to win the next four titles [1986, 1990, 1994, 1998]. They won two more silver medals in 2002 and 2010, before returning to the top of the podium in 2014 in Incheon, where they defeated the People's Republic of China 1-0 in the final.

At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the Republic of Korea missed out on the podium for only the second time in 10 appearances at the Games. They finished second in their group after wins over Indonesia, Thailand, and Kazakhstan, and a defeat to India. The Koreans conceded twice in the final period to lose 2-0 to Japan in the semifinals, and had to settle for fourth place after a 2-1 bronze medal match defeat to the People's Republic of China.

The Republic of Korea triumphed at three of the first four editions of the Asia Cup between 1985 and 1999, but have not claimed the title in six attempts this century. Since 2007 they have been runners-up to Japan on three occasions, most recently losing the 2022 final to their Japanese rivals 4-2.

The team won silver on their Olympic Games debut as the host nation in 1988 and again in 1996, losing both finals to Australia. The Republic of Korea finished third at their first World Cup in 1990, which remains their best performance at the tournament in nine appearances. In 2022 they ranked 13th at the World Cup, and also placed sixth out of eight teams at the inaugural Nations Cup.
