Team Overview

General
Thailand made their Asian Games debut as hosts in 1998 in Bangkok, finishing sixth out of six teams. Although the team missed the 2002 Games in Busan, they have appeared at the last four editions of the tournament. They were ranked seventh in 2006, 2010, and 2014, but made a significant improvement four years ago in Indonesia where they qualified for the semifinals by winning three of their four group matches. In the last four they faced eventual gold medallists, the Republic of Korea, losing 40-13, and then suffered another heavy defeat, 43-14, to Japan in the bronze medal match.

The Thai team have competed at the Asian championship on three occasions. They finished fourth on their debut in 2008 and placed seventh in 2010. At the 2022 edition in the Republic of Korea, they won one group match and then recorded a loss to India and a victory over Uzbekistan in the classification rounds to finish the tournament in seventh place. At the South East Asian Games, the team claimed gold in 2007 and silver at the 2003 and 2021 Games.

Thailand have participated at one edition of the world championship, placing 21st in 2009.
