Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China are the only women's handball team other than the Republic of Korea to have won gold at the Asian Games. In 2010 they triumphed over Japan in the final in Guangzhou, and they have also won two silver medals [1990, 2018] and two bronze medals [1994, 2002]. They have never finished outside the top four at the Games.

At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the Chinese team won two of four group games and then claimed a tight 32-31 victory over Japan in the semifinals. They had to settle for silver, however, following a 29-23 defeat to the Republic of Korea in the gold medal game.

Although the People's Republic of China have consistently placed in the top three at the Asian championship, they have never claimed gold. The team have won 17 medals in 18 appearances, including 10 silvers. They finished third at the 2022 Asian Championship in the Republic of Korea.

At the Olympic Games, the Chinese team's only medal is the bronze they won on their debut in 1984. Their most recent appearance was as hosts in 2008, when they finished sixth. They have competed at every edition of the world championship since 1986, recording a highest finish of eighth in 1990.
