Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China won gold at the inaugural Asian Games men's handball tournament in 1982 and finished as runners-up four years later in Seoul to the Republic of Korea. They also won bronze at the 1994 Games, but since then the team have not reached the podium. They placed 10th at the 2014 Games in Incheon, and in 2018 they missed the Asian Games entirely for the first time.

The Chinese team also saw early continental success at the Asian championship, winning bronze at the first edition in 1977 and silver in 1979. They claimed bronze again in 1991 and another silver in 2000, which was the last time they finished on the podium at the Asian championship. They did not appear at the 2022 edition of the tournament, and finished 11th in 2020.

The People's Republic of China's only appearance at the Olympic Games came in 2008 when they were the host nation. They finished 12th out of the 12 teams competing in Beijing. They have featured twice at the world championship, placing 20th out of 24 teams in both 1997 and 1999.
