Team Overview

General
Chinese Taipei's only podium finish at the Asian Games is a bronze medal from 1994. The team have competed at all but one edition of the Games since women's football was introduced to the programme in 1990, only missing the 2010 Games in Guangzhou.

At the 2018 Games, the Chinese Taipei team came close to a second medal but finished fourth. They lost their opening match 2-1 to the Republic of Korea, but progressed to the knockout stages by overcoming hosts Indonesia [4-0] and Maldives [7-0]. They required penalties to beat Vietnam in the quarterfinals following a goalless draw before losing 1-0 to the People's Republic of China in the semifinals. They were beaten again by the Republic of Korea [4-0] in the bronze medal match.

Chinese Taipei did not compete at the first Asian Cup in 1975, but claimed the next three titles in 1977, 1980, and 1981. They are one of only three teams to have won the Asian Cup at least three times, and they have also been runners-up twice [1989, 1999] and finished third twice [1991, 1995]. After a 14-year absence, Chinese Taipei returned to the Asian Cup in 2022, and they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Philippines on penalties.

The team's only appearance at the World Cup came at the inaugural event in 1991, when they were beaten in the quarterfinals 7-0 by eventual champions the United States of America.
