Team Overview

General
Thailand are making their sixth appearance at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The team debuted on home soil in Bangkok in 1998 and have competed at each women's football tournament since 2006.

At the 2018 Games, Thailand lost their two group games to Japan [2-0] and Vietnam [3-2], but progressed to the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed teams. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 5-0 loss to eventual silver medallists the People's Republic of China. It was the second time the Thai team had reached the knockout stages, having also made it to the quarterfinals in 2014.

Thailand reached the final at four of the first five editions of the Asian Cup. They finished as runners-up to New Zealand at the inaugural tournament in 1975 and were beaten by Chinese Taipei in both the 1977 and 1981 finals. They would finally triumph as hosts in 1983 with a 3-0 win over India. The team then placed third in 1986, but have not finished in the top three since. At the 2022 edition Thailand advanced to the quarterfinals, where they lost 7-0 to Japan.

The team have competed at two World Cups, in 2015 and 2019. They did not progress from the group stage on either occasion, but did record a 3-2 win over Cote d'Ivoire in 2015.

Thailand won silver at the 2021 South East Asian Games after defeating the Philippines in the semifinals and losing to hosts Vietnam 1-0 in the gold medal match, which was a repeat of the result from the 2019 South East Asian Games gold medal match. They were also beaten by the host nation in the 2022 AFF Championship final, finishing as runners-up after a 3-0 defeat to the Philippines.
