Her grandfather Aming Priatna represented Indonesia in road cycling. He won gold in the men's team road race, gold in the men's team time trial road race, and bronze in the men's open road race at the 1962 Asian Games in Indonesia. Her younger brother Arvan Deni Priatna has competed in road cycling at provincial level. She began competing when she was in junior high. "When I joined the junior national team programme, I trained in BMX, cross-country, and road racing. Now [speaking in 2022] I'm focusing on road and track." (Indonesian Cycling Federation YouTube channel, 21 Aug 2022)

"At the beginning, I never thought of becoming an athlete. But I think it's because of my grandfather. He was an athlete, and then became a coach. He used to take me when he coached these clubs [in Bandung, Indonesia]. It was an after-school activity for me. Then he asked me to compete in a provincial level event. I hesitated because I didn't like the outfit, it looked too tight. And it was an outdoor sport, I didn't like the heat. My mother told me, 'It will be fine as long as you achieve'. So then I started at the national championships, this was before that provincial event and I finished fifth. My grandfather told me, 'See? I knew you could do it'. That's how it started." RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
She considered retiring from the sport due to a combination of injury, illness, and fatigue. However, an enforced three-month break from cycling due to an injury in 2021 allowed her to regain motivation. "I contracted COVID-19, I got injured, and I was unable to train and compete for quite a while. It was like I was starting from zero. When I returned, somehow I felt my training became harder. Honestly, right before my injury, this thought of quitting the sport always haunted me, I was just tired. I could do physical training all day long, but I just couldn't stand the mental pressure. When I got injured, I was told to take a break, and I had to obey, it was for my sake. I missed a lot of competitions, and it was my first time missing the national championships. It was frustrating too because at the time, the COVID-19 restrictions were easing up and tournaments were opening all over the country. During that time, I realised that cycling has been my life and always will be. I couldn't live without it. I need to recover, train, and compete."
