She wanted to take up athletics with the People's Police Sports Team in Vietnam, but the coaches said that she was not best suited to the sport. She was then encouraged to try boxing by a coach from her hometown of Thai Binh. "Beginning technical practice, I had to get used to resisting attacks, which caused me pain.
