General
CHANGE OF WEIGHT CLASS
Having won silver in the flyweight category at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he moved up to the bantamweight class and won gold at the 2022 Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan. After claiming gold at the 2023 South East Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, he moved back down to flyweight with the goal of competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "I feel comfortable in the 54kg category [bantamweight], but from now the focus is the Olympics and I need to bring my weight under 51kg for that before the Asian Games [in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China], which is the first Olympic qualifying meet." (olympics.com, 14 May 2023; SportsDeskOnline, 18 Jan 2023; businessmirror.com.ph, 11 Nov 2022)

EARLY DAYS
He used to sell newspapers, cigarettes, and vegetables to make ends meet while growing up in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. He won his first amateur fight at age seven, and bought rice for his family using his prize. "[Boxing] was a bigger deal than me trading on the street for a few hours, looking for plastics to sell. I was encouraged to fight because of our poverty." (pep.ph, 13 Jan 2022; news.abs-cbn.com, 04 Aug 2021; rappler.com, 01 Apr 2021, 13 Aug 2017; pinoyliga.com, 16 Jul 2020)

NAVY
In 2021 he joined the Philippine Navy as an apprentice seaman. "I am very grateful because it is my dream to become a soldier." (aboutcagayandeoro.com, 21 Aug 2021)
