"Father wanted us [him and his twin brother Aibek] to begin freestyle wrestling and took us to a sports complex in Astana. Coach Askar Yerkebayev came out to meet us. When my father asked him if there was a wrestling group there, he replied, 'There is no wrestling gym here. I am a boxing coach. Let me train your twin children temporarily. Free of charge.
