Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China are the most successful women's basketball team at the Asian Games. They have finished on the podium at every edition of the Games since 1974, amassing six gold, four silver, and two bronze medals along the way. After losing the 2014 final to the Republic of Korea, which ended their run of three consecutive Asian Games titles from 2002 to 2010, the Chinese women bounced back in 2018 to reclaim gold. Their undefeated campaign in Indonesia culminated in a 71-65 victory over the Korea Unified team in the final.

The Chinese team have a similarly strong record at the Asia Cup, and are tied with the Republic of Korea for the most titles at the tournament. They secured their 12th triumph in 2023 in Australia, which was the team's first Asia Cup title since 2011. Having lost the final to Japan at the 2019 and 2021 editions of the tournament, they turned the tables on their Japanese rivals with a narrow 73-71 victory.

In 2022 the People's Republic of China were runners-up at the World Cup in Australia. It matched their best result at the tournament, with their only other runners-up finish coming in 1994. The 2022 tournament saw the team beat France in the quarterfinals [85-71] and Australia at the semifinal stage [61-59], before they were outclassed by the United States of America in the final, losing 83-61.

The Chinese team have managed two medals in nine Olympic appearances, winning bronze at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and silver in Barcelona in 1992. They posted a fifth-place finish at the 2020 Games in Tokyo after they were eliminated by Serbia in the quarterfinals.
