Team Overview

General
Chinese Taipei won silver at the Asian Games on their debut in 1954 and again in 1958. Since then the closest they have come to adding another medal is fourth place finishes in 1970 and 2018.

At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the team maintained a perfect record in the group stage by overcoming Japan [71-65], Hong Kong, China [98-67] and Qatar [83-70]. They then beat the Syrian Arab Republic 82-75 in the quarterfinals before losing to the People's Republic of China [86-63] in the semifinals. In their bronze medal match against the Republic of Korea, they faced a 19-point deficit heading into the final quarter and, despite mounting a comeback, they missed out on the podium in an 89-81 defeat.

Chinese Taipei also registered early success at the Asia championship [now known as the Asia Cup] with runners-up finishes at the first two editions in 1960 and 1963. At the 2022 Asia Cup they won one of three group stage matches and then missed out on a quarterfinal berth by the narrowest of margins, losing 97-96 to Jordan in the play-off round.

The team have not featured at the World Cup since 1959. On their only Olympic Games appearance in 1956, they ranked 11th out of 15 teams.
