Team Overview

General
The Republic of Korea have won the most medals of any men's basketball team at the Asian Games. Among their 14 podium finishes they have claimed gold four times [1970, 1982, 2002, 2014], a total only surpassed by the People's Republic of China's eight titles. The Korean team have also finished as runners-up on six occasions, while at the 2018 Games in Indonesia they claimed their fourth bronze medal.

In 2018 the Koreans won all three of their group stage matches before defeating the Philippines 91-82 in the quarterfinals. They lost to the Islamic Republic of Iran [80-68] in the last four, but claimed bronze with an 89-81 triumph over Chinese Taipei.

In 30 appearances at the Asia championship [now known as the Asia Cup] between 1960 and 2022, the Republic of Korea finished in the top three 25 times. They won the title twice in that period [1969 and 1997]. Between 1987 and 2003 they lost six Asian championship finals to the People's Republic of China. At the 2022 Asia Cup, they were beaten 88-78 in the quarterfinals by New Zealand.

The Korean team made the first of their six Olympic Games appearances in 1948 but they have not featured at the Games since 1996. They placed 26th on their most recent World Cup appearance in 2019, with their only win coming in their final classification round match against Cote d'Ivoire.
