Team Overview

General
The Philippines are returning to the Asian Games after a 17-year absence. They competed at the Games in 1998, 2002, and 2006, but the team are yet to progress beyond the preliminary round. The only victory they have recorded was over Thailand at the 1998 Games in Bangkok.

The Filipino team won the inaugural Asian championship title in 1954 as hosts in Manila, where four teams participated. They also finished third at the 1969 and 1971 editions of the tournament but did not compete at the Asian championship between 1971 and 2003. They have taken part in the last two editions, losing the third place play-off to the Republic of Korea in 2017 and placing fifth in 2019. They won gold as hosts of the 2019 South East Asian Games after beating Thailand 15-2 in the final.

The Philippines made their only appearance at the World Cup in 2001 in Chinese Taipei, where they exited the competition at the group stage.
