Additional Information

General
FROM DAIRI TO JAKARTA
In 2011 she left her hometown of Dairi on Sumatra island to pursue an education in Jakarta, Indonesia. She lived with her cousin, who was a boxer, and connected with an athletics coach after noticing a group of people running in front of her cousin's boxing club. "My parents didn't have any formal education background and they thought a successful person was the one who worked in an office. I thought I was going to be that person. My mindset when leaving Dairi was to work, save some money, go to college, and work again as a lecturer. I liked mathematics. When I was studying in Jakarta, I had several part-time jobs, and sometimes I went jogging with my cousin. I remember I would stop running every 100 metres to catch my breath, while older people would pass me and jog steadily. It made me wonder, I mean I came from a farming background and doing heavy chores had been my routine. Basically I was very curious. I tried to find a community that would train with me. So when I joined the club [Indonesia Muda Atletik], I wanted to win from the very beginning."
