Having initially taken up gymnastics at age nine, she switched to the high jump at age 12. She began pole vaulting during her second year at university in Bangkok, Thailand. (coconuts, 30 Aug 2018)

She was introduced to pole vaulting by a fellow university student. "I quit gymnastics when I was around 12 because I wasn't very good at it nor was I physically suitable for it, and started high jumping.
