In 2021 he injured his elbow during a competition in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He opted not to undergo surgery and the injury did not prevent him from competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He then injured his knee during a training session but again decided to forgo surgery in order to continue competing. He competed at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, OR, United States of America, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, before undergoing surgery to treat both injuries in late 2022.
