She took up the sport in grade seven at Matsubara Junior High School in Kusatsu, Japan. She initially competed over 100m and 200m before switching to the 400m hurdles in 2019 at Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School in Japan. She played tag rugby while in primary school but switched to athletics following encouragement from her mother and her older sister.
