NOC Overview
Tajikistan won two medals at its first Asian Games in 1994, with men's judoka Nazriev Khairoullo claiming bronze in the 90kg category, and Isroil Ismoilov also securing bronze in karate in the kumite 80kg division.
Male hammer thrower Dilshod Nazarov has won more gold medals [three] and total medals [four] than any other Tajikistani athlete at the Asian Games. He claimed the NOC's first gold in 2006 and retained his title in both 2010 and 2014, before he had to settle for silver in 2018. Tajikistan's only other gold medallist is boxer Jahon Qurbonov, who triumphed in the men's light heavyweight division at the 2006 Games in Doha.
Freestyle wrestler Lidia Karamtshakova was the first female representative of Tajikistan to win an Asian Games medal, with silver in 2002 in the 48kg category. The only other Tajikistani woman to have claimed a medal at the Games is taekwondoka Mokhru Khalimova, who secured bronze in the +73kg event in Incheon in 2014.
At the 2018 Games, Tajikistan won seven medals, its highest tally at a single edition of the Games. This included the NOC's first medal in canoe sprint, a silver for Shahriyor Daminov in the men's C1 1000m. There were also silver medals in Indonesia for Umed Khasanbekov in sambo and Behruzi Khojazoda in kurash, as well as for Nazarov in athletics.
