NOC Overview
Since its debut in 1986, Jordan has only missed one Asian Games [1990]. The NOC won a number of bronze and silver medals in its first four appearances at the Games, but had to wait until 2006 to claim its first gold, courtesy of taekwondoka Mohammad Al Bakhit in the men's 54kg category. Taekwondo remains Jordan's most lucrative sport, with Nabil Hassan adding a second gold in 2010 in the men's 80kg category.
Jordan also boasts multiple podium finishes in karate, ju-jitsu, and boxing. In 2010 in Guangzhou, karateka Manar Shaat became the first female Jordanian to win gold at the Games with her victory in the women's kumite +68kg event.
The 2018 Games was Jordan's most successful edition in terms of total medals [12], and joint-most successful in terms of gold medals [two, equalling its 2010 tally]. In Indonesia, Haidar Al-Rasheed became the first Jordanian to claim Asian Games gold in ju-jitsu when he won the men's ne-waza 85kg category, while Julyana Al-Sadeq secured victory in taekwondo in the women's 67kg category.
No representative of Jordan has won more than one Asian Games gold medal, or more than two total medals of any colour. Taekwondoka Alaa Kutkut is Jordan's only multiple silver-medallist, having become the NOC's first female medallist in 1998 in the women's 67kg category before winning silver again in 2006 in the 73kg category.
