Highlights:

Bahrain enjoyed its most successful Asian Games campaign in Indonesia in 2018, crowning an upwards trend for the NOC that saw it achieve double figures for total medals in three of the last four editions of the Games. Its total medal haul in 2018 surpassed its previous highest total from Doha 2006.

Athletics has provided the majority of Bahrain's medals in the Asian Games, including all of the gold medals the NOC won at the 2018 Games. The men's handball team claimed Bahrain's only medal [silver] from another sport in Indonesia after they lost the gold medal match to Qatar in extra time.

Bahrain dominated the women's track events in Indonesia with victory in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m and steeplechase events, as well as gold in the women's marathon. 21-year-old Edidiong Ofonime Odiong claimed three gold on her Games debut - including the 100m and 200m double - with her tally of four total medals surpassed only by fellow athletics competitor Maryam Yusuf Jamal, who won five gold medals between 2006 and 2014.

Also in 2018, 18-year-old Winfred Yavi's triumph in the women's 3000m steeplechase made her the NOC's youngest medallist in Indonesia and second-youngest Asian Games medallist of all time. In men's events, Birhanu Balew won gold in the 5000m, while Abraham Naibei Cheroben originally won silver in the men's 10,000m behind fellow Bahraini Hassan Chani. However, in 2020, Chani's results in Indonesia were disqualified for a doping violation.
