Team Overview

General
Thailand came close to a podium finish when 3x3 basketball first appeared at the Asian Games in 2018. In Indonesia, where the competition was restricted to U23 players, the Thais finished second in Pool A before seeing off Japan in the quarterfinals [21-13]. They lost out to the Republic of Korea in the semifinals, 20-16, and were then beaten 21-7 by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the bronze medal match.

The senior Thai team took part in all four editions of the Asia Cup between 2018 and 2023. They are yet to make a major impact at the tournament, failing to progress from the qualifying round on all four occasions. At the 2023 Asia Cup in Singapore they won games against New Caledonia and Samoa but lost to Kazakhstan.

One of Thailand's most significant results saw them win gold at the 2021 South East Asian Games in Hanoi. They overcame defending champions the Philippines at the semifinal stage before securing the title against hosts Vietnam in the final. The result saw the Thais gain a measure of revenge for the bronze medal match at the 2019 South East Asian Games, where Vietnam beat Thailand to claim a podium finish. They saw off Vietnam once again in the bronze medal match at the 2023 Games in Cambodia.
