Manama, Bahrain: The Bahrain Olympic Committee held a special ceremony on Tuesday to honour successful athletes in four sports: golf, athletics, cycling and sailing. The national golf team won one gold medal and four silver medals at the 32nd Arab Championships in Bahrain last November, and four gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the GCC Championships in Muscat last month.
The athletics team returned from the Second West Asian Cross County Championships in Dubai last December with three bronze medals. They also took home 10 gold, one silver and one bronze at the 20th Arab Cross Country Championships in Cairo earlier this month.
Bahrain’s cycling team won six bronze medals at the GCC Track Championships in UAE last month, while Bahraini sailor Saud Al Naar notched the Arab Championship bronze medal in Alexandria from January 29 to February 4.
The ceremony was patronized by BOC Chief Executive Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in the presence of BOC General Secretary Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa and BOC sports affairs executive director Noaman Al Hassan.
Shaikh Khalid expressed his pride in the achievements of the Bahraini athletes and said their success was highly appreciated by BOC President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who was fully committed to supporting national athletes in international competition.
